Leicester City manager Dean Smith has urged everybody to be “together” in order to achieve the win needed for survival on Sunday afternoon.
City host West Ham in the final game of the season (4.30pm kick off), knowing that a win would give them a chance of survival. Should they pick up three points against the Hammers, the side will be hoping that Everton drop points at home to Bournemouth.
The situation means that the game is seen as the biggest for the club since the FA Cup final just over two years ago. The club have taken to social media to encourage fans in attendance to wear blue in order to show their support to the team.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Smith was asked for a message to fans ahead of what could be his last game in charge of the club. The manager, along with assistant John Terry and Craig Shakespeare signed deals until the end of the season with the remit of keeping the club in the Premier League.
“We need their 100% support, get behind the players, get behind the staff, get behind the football club, “ he said. “We’re all in the same boat, we want to get a result which is to stay in the Premier League and the only way we do that is by all being together and I have no doubts that we will be.
“We all have a responsibility for Leicester City football club, whether your employed by it, a supporter it’s our club now and our job is to get the best that we can for the club and the best we can get is to get a win on Sunday and the only way you do that is to be together.”
The City boss also said that it his responsibility to make sure that the team do not leave the field of play at 6:30pm on Sunday with regrets over what could have been.
He added: “My job is to make sure there are no regrets for the players to make sure they’ve gone out, given 100%.
“If I feel that somebody is tiring or somebody is not playing as well as they can, then it’s my job to change it from the bench and I think that could be the difference as well by having finishers who can come off the bench and change the game for us.”
