RYAN Howley has extended his stay at Coventry City until 2025 after the youngster signed a new two-year deal with the Sky Blues.

The 19-year-old made his first Championship start as City thrashed Huddersfield Town 4-0 last season, one of five appearances he managed during the 2022/23 campaign.

And the midfielder has now agreed a new deal with the Sky Blues as he looks to continue his development with City over the coming seasons.

Howley said: “It’s really good. The way we have been performing this season, to be offered a new deal is a really good feeling.

“It’s not been an easy journey for me. This is my 15th season, so it’s taken a long while but I hope this journey carries on.

“This off-season is giving me some time to reflect and to have played seven times not for the senior team is brilliant for me.

“The highlight so far has been that start against Huddersfield, helped by the good win. The manager is not the sort to throw a player in for the sake of it.

“Ahead of the game, the gaffer told me that I have earned my chance to make my first start by being ready. I took it and we got the win.”

The teenager hopes to try and break into the first team next season and wants to learn from City’s current midfield stars.

Howley added: “The players at this club have shown their quality in recent months.

“Getting to the play-off final is not easy and there is so much quality in there, especially in midfield where we have Gustavo Hamer, Liam Kelly, Callum O’Hare, Kasey Palmer, Jamie Allen, Ben Sheaf, and Josh Eccles.

“The work that those players put in is incredible. They never miss. It’s great competition for me and it’s tough but I enjoy it. They are all really good players.

“The big thing I need now is more game time. My aim for the new season will be to break into the first team and play on a more regular basis.”
