Gary Neville apologizes for Nottingham Forest’s comment

Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Gary Neville offers supporters an apology

Gary Neville has issued an apology to Nottingham Forest supporters after a gaffe.

The Reds are on a good run of form with Steve Cooper’s side recording an important 2-0 win over Leicester City at the weekend to lift the team to 13th in the table. The victory at the City Ground came just days after Forest earned their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, setting up a two-legged cup tie against Manchester United, who are also stringing wins together.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast after Man United’s victory over their local rivals Man City on Saturday, Neville began looking ahead to the tough challenges that lie ahead for his former side, including the League Cup semi-final. However, the Sky Sports pundit dubbed the Reds “Notts Forest”, with his mistake quickly being spotted by commentator Martin Tyler, and he admitted it wasn’t the first time.

“Did I say Notts Forest again? I’ve said Notts Forest now about the last three times. I’m not sure I’m going to get out of Nottingham when I go there for the Carabao Cup in a couple of weeks,” Neville joked.

“ I apologise to you, Nottingham Forest fans! I know it’s an insult to you. I actually feel the same way when people say Man U and stuff like that.

“It’s just growing, it’s what I used to call them, but the reality of it is I am apologising. I understand those things are important to fans.”

Forest get their Carabao Cup semi-final against Man United underway at the City Ground on Wednesday, January 25 (8pm kick-off). The return leg will be played at Old Trafford a week later, with the final set to take place at Wembley on Sunday, February 26.
