Newcastle United and Liverpool ‘turned down’ by free agent with 98 Premier League appearances

It’s claimed the former Premier League defender rejected both Newcastle United and Liverpool.

Caglar Soyuncu, a Turkish defender, is said to have turned down offers from Newcastle United and Liverpool in order to join Atletico Madrid.

Soyuncu left Leicester City when his contract ended at the end of last season. The 27-year-old was relegated from the Premier League with Leicester City, but he was not short of offers, according to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo.
In 2018, Leicester paid £18 million to sign the center-back from Bundesliga club Freiburg. Soyuncu made 132 appearances in all, including 98 in the Premier League, and was a member of the FA Cup-winning club two years ago.

It’s claimed Newcastle and Liverpool made offers to sign Soyuncu, however he had already given his word to Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

Since moving to Spain, Soyuncu has made just two substitute appearances in La Liga after sustaining an injury during the recent international break with Turkey.

Newcastle considered signing a central defender in the summer but instead bolstered both full-back positions with the arrivals of Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall from Southampton and Chelsea, respectively.

Around £130million was spent in total with Soyuncu’s former teammate Harvey Barnes moving to St James’ Park, as did Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from Serie A giants AC MilanWho is Atlético target Çağlar Söyüncü? - Into the Calderon

Brilliant news on Tuesday as Newcastle reveal surprise Joelinton boost

Joelinton has returned to training ahead of schedule, handing Eddie Howe a huge boost ahead of our busy run of fixtures over the next fortnight.

Last week, Howe said the Brazilian had an outside chance of returning before October’s international break, which will commence following our trip to West Ham next Sunday.

However, we’ve spotted the Brazilian in one of the training photos released by the club on Tuesday afternoon (see below), suggesting he’s close to returning from a knee injury.

The big man hasn’t featured since he limped off in our 3-1 defeat to Brighton. He then went away on international duty, but that aggravated the injury, seeing him sit out recent games against Brentford, AC Milan and Sheffield United.

I’d be shocked if he plays any part of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup game with Man City, but the fact he’s training again puts him in with a chance of returning against Burnley – if not, PSG next Wednesday.

With Harvey Barnes ruled out for ‘months not weeks’ and Joe Willock set to be out until late October at the earliest, it’s a huge boost to see our midfield enforcer training again!
