Everton manager Sean Dyche gives an honest assessment of Aston Villa’s Carabao Cup victory.

Birmingham’s latest Aston Villa news Everton manager Sean Dyche gives his post-match comments live.

Sean Dyche was pleased with his team’s performance as Everton overcame Aston Villa 2-1 in the Carabao Cup third round.

Villa were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the third round after goals from James Garner and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in each half. After a lackluster performance by the home team, Boubacar Kamara scored a consolation goal.

As Villa suffered their fourth defeat in all competitions, the Toffees maintained their advantage. Unai Emery’s players will return to Villa Park for a Saturday noon match against Brighton.

“I don’t think the performances we’ve shown on the whole this season, we were really poor against these in the league,” Dyche remarked after the triumph. However, the other performances have been at least adequate, and I believe we deserved better.

“You don’t always get what you deserve, and you must work for it.” Tonight’s performance was excellent, and the outcome was unquestionably favorable.

“I’m really pleased with the players, their ability to change shape, think differently, and employ different tactics.” It’s about the people and the team principles, and I believe it was on display again tonight.

“I believe the players’ tactics were well delivered, as was their intent to go and take the game on, both in and out of possession.” And I thought that was really, really nice.”

“We were really bright in the second half,” Dyche remarked. At halftime, I suggested that they adjust something because their tempo wasn’t their typical tempo.Former Everton player Buckley dies - Eurosport

“They tried to be faster, but I thought we soaked it up well, and Dom delivered a great finish.” It was a superb finish because of his coolness in front of goal.

“We controlled the game well, didn’t give too much away, very unfortunate to give away a goal but it seemed to get to three bodies before it made its way in and it could have been a more comfortable finish but we saw it out.”
