Wrexham fan dies a month after final wish of meeting co-owner Ryan Reynolds
Father-of-two Jay Fear has sadly died following a short battle with cancer, but he got to live out his final wish which was to meet Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds in the flesh
A terminally ill football fan has passed away shortly after being granted his dying wish, which was to meet Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds.
Jay Fear, 45, was re-diagnosed with terminal appendix cancer in January after getting the all-clear last year and tragically succumbed to the illness on Thursday.
Wrexham co-owner Reynolds, who hosted Fear at the Racecourse Ground as the Red Dragons sealed promotion to the Football League last month, said he was “so grateful” to have met the father-of-two, adding that he “loved every second” he spent in his company.
“So grateful to have spent time with Jay Fear,” the Hollywood star tweeted on Friday morning. “He didn’t have much of it left and the fact he shared that time so freely with others is something I’ll never take for granted and never forget. This man lived.
“Thank you for sharing your dad with me,” he told Jay’s family. “I know how inadequate words must be given your enormous loss. Sending you all your love from my family, Wrexham and beyond.
“I loved every second I spent with Jay.”
After meeting Reynolds, Fear said he hoped the experience would live long in the memory of his wife, Debbie, his daughter, Jess, and his son, Sam.
“They are the ones that are going to remember what happened for the rest of their lives,” he said at the time. “I just hope this is a core memory that they’ll never forget.”
While at the Racecourse Ground, the Deadpool star also gave Mr Fear a glove from the movie and arranged for him to visit the set for the third instalment of the film.
