Sam Allardyce says 29-year-old Everton player is the very best in the Premier League at one thing

Sam Allardyce has named Jordan Pickford as the very best at one particular thing.

The 68-year-old was joined by former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny on his No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast this week and the pair went into deep discussion about former and current goalies in the English top flight.

Allardyce and Kenny were asked to build their ultimate Premier League goalkeeper made up of four different categories and it was Pickford that made it into his former manager’s super player.10 things you didn't know about new England manager Sam Allardyce | Football News | Sky Sports

When asked who he would select is the star he would put in between the sticks to save an all-important penalty, Allardyce took his time to think but eventually landed on Pickford.

The 29-year-old has become well-known for his infamous penalty saves during his time in the England set-up, helping the Three Lions to beat Colombia in the 2018 World Cup following a dramatic penalty shootout.

Pickford went onto score and then save the decisive penalty as England beat Switzerland in the Nations League the following year and then saved two Italy penalties in the Euro 2020 final that ended in defeat.

Since joining Everton, Pickford has also saved nine penalties including one at the end of last season to claim a draw against Leicester City.Mass exodus? Jordan Pickford could lead Everton departures in January transfer window if 777 Partners takeover is blocked | Goal.com

Speaking on the podcast, Big Sam said: “I think Pickford, when you saw him the Euro final and he saved two penalties. Imagine a goalie saving two penalties and you don’t win it.”

Pickford, Schmeichel, Ederson & Martinez

Allardyce also selected former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel for his shot-stopping, Man City’s Ederson for the ball at his feet and Emiliano Martinez for handling crosses.

The former Everton boss has hit the nail on the head with Pickford and there is no denying – no matter who you support – that he has been sensational in penalty shootouts for England.
