Raptors Sign, Waive Darryl Morsell
Morsell has been released by the Raptors, according to Murphy (Twitter link). They have a vacant space on their 21-man roster once more.
According to Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca (Twitter link), the Raptors have signed free-agency shooting guard Darryl Morsell to an Exhibit 10 deal.
Morsell played in the G League for the Salt Lake City Stars and Raptors 905 this past season after being undrafted out of Marquette in 2022. He averaged 7.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 18.2 minutes a game for the two teams, with a.393/.220/.750 shooting line.
While Morsell’s scoring stats have never stood out, he’s a terrific perimeter defender who earned Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2021 while playing for Maryland.
Morsell may be at training camp with Toronto, but he is likely to return to the Raptors 905 once the regular season begins, according to Murphy. If he is cut and subsequently spends at least 60 days with the Raptors’ NBAGL affiliate, he will be eligible for an Exhibit 10 bonus of up to $75,000.
On Thursday, the Raptors released Kevin Obanor to create place on the roster for Morsell.
