Ipswich Town: Lee Evans set to undergo knee surgery

Ipswich Town midfielder Lee Evans is set to undergo knee surgery today

The 29-year-old picked up the injury playing in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town.

It’s the fourth time the Welshman has been sidelined with a knee issue since joining the Blues, having previously suffered medium-term setbacks in February 2022, October 2022, and February this year.

“Lee Evans unfortunately has an MCL (medial collateral ligament) injury, so he’s going to have surgery tomorrow,” revealed Blues boss Kieran McKenna after last night’s 3-0 home win against Hull City.

“It’s very disappointing for him and for the football club because he’s a great player and person.

“Having spoken to him, I think hopefully now he can resolve the couple of issues he’s had with a surgical repair.

“That will leave him out for quite a while but, all being well, should hopefully give him a knee in really, really good condition which will give him a chance to have a good run at his career again, because he’s been really unlucky with it.

“We’re disappointed with that for us and for Lee, but I’m sure he’ll throw himself into the recovery and come back strongly again.”

Town still have plenty of midfield options in Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo, Jack Taylor, Dominic Ball and Cameron Humphreys.
