Wolves sign Pedro Neto replacement amid Arsenal transfer links as Edu targets ‘mystery winger’

Arsenal got off to the perfect start in the Premier League last week and continues to put in lots of work off the pitch with technical director Edu working on incoming and outgoing transfers.

Wolves’ latest signing may hint at a potential transfer exit for Pedro Neto with Arsenal said to be interested in making a move for the talented winger.

The Gunners are thought to be targeting a move for a ‘mystery winger’ as Mikel Arteta looks to add more players to his squad before the transfer deadline. football.london understands Arsenal are prioritising outgoing transfers at present with Lucas Torreira becoming the latest player to seal a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Cody Gakpo, Moussa Diaby, Yeremy Pino, Leroy Sane and Neto have all been linked with a move to north London this month with just three weeks left of the summer transfer window. The Gunners may now have a clear path to sign the latter after Wolves sealed a £27.5million deal for Goncalo Guedes.

Bruno Lage now has seven attackers at his disposal following the arrival of Guedes at Molineux, suggesting one or two forwards could be moved on with Wolves switching to a new formation this season. The Midlands club have moved away from a familiar five-back system, now playing with a lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 system that sees Neto play in his preferred position on the left-wing.

With the signing of Guedes naturally playing on the left-wing as well, Neto will face more competition for a starting spot in Lage’s side and Arsenal could look to make a move for the talented forward who impressed in the 2-1 defeat to Leeds. Whilst the Portugal international has by no means been signed to become Neto’s replacement, Guedes’ signing could certainly give the Gunners some extra leverage if they did want to make a move for the 22-year-old.

Neto missed a large chunk of last season due to a knee injury he sustained in April 2021 but looks back to his best after making a full recovery. Arsenal are said to have held a long-term interest in the Portuguese talent and with the futures of Nicolas Pepe and Reiss Nelson in doubt at the Emirates Stadium, Edu may look to wrap up a deal for Neto to satisfy Arteta’s demand for a new winger.
