Steelers star TJ Watt’s gruesome finger injury gets crucial surgery update
TJ Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers sustained an injury that will likely keep him out for a long period. According to Tom Pelissero, he is not anticipated to miss any games after dislocating a finger and damaging numerous ligaments last Sunday.
Watt may also require surgery, however, Ian Rapoport reports that he won’t know for sure until the season is over.
Watt, probably the finest defensive player in the game, caused havoc on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5 despite the injury. In a 17-10 Steelers victory, he had two sacks, two pass deflections, and a fumble recovery.
Watt is up to eight sacks already through five weeks. Sunday’s game was already his third multi-sack game of the season. He’s well on pace to break his own single-season sack record which he hit in 2021, tying Michael Strahan with 22.5 sacks. He also led the NFL in sacks in 2020.
The Steelers’ defense usually follows TJ Watt, so it’s a great sign that he’s not anticipated to lose any time despite the horrific injury. The club’s bye week surely helps, given the squad is off this week, allowing Watt extra time to recover.
Pittsburgh’s defense played maybe its finest game of the season against Baltimore, holding the Ravens to 10 points. The Steelers forced two fourth-down conversions, including a game-ending sack by Watt late in the fourth quarter.
If Watt’s injury doesn’t slow him down too much, he should be able to keep sacking quarterbacks and making their lives miserable.
