Daniel Farke issues injury updates on Leeds United duo Jamie Shackleton and Jaidon Anthony

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has given an update on injuries ahead of the Championship clash with Bristol City

Daniel Farke says Jamie Shackleton will miss Leeds United’s Championship clash with Bristol City and winger Jaidon Anthony is a doubt for the tie. The former of the two Whites key players picked up a shoulder injury and sat out of the win over QPR, while Anthony rolled his ankle against the Hoops in midweek.

“Jamie will sadly miss the game,” Farke told reporters. “His shoulder is too painful and we need some further assessment. I hope he’s available on the other side of the international break.

“He’ll definitely miss the game tomorrow and that’s bad news. With Jaidon Anthony and his knock I would say 50-50, it was painful and a bit sore.

“Yesterday he rolled his ankle, today it’s much improved and it looks like he could train, we’ll have to see this afternoon and I would say with him it’s 50-50 if he’s well. I was pleased with his first appearance in the starting line-up and hopefully he’s available, if not we have to find some other solutions. But I’d say 50-50 if he’s available to play.”

Farke will be without Junior Firpo, Wilfried Gnonto, Stuart Dallas and Junior Pirpo for the clash with the Robins but says he’ll make a late call on Sam Byram’s inclusion in the matchday squad, given his recent injury struggles.

“With Sam Byram we’ll have to see and make a late call,” the Whites boss said. “The situation is slightly better because he’s more and more in his rhythm.

“The last time it was three games within six days, right now we’ve got one day more, three games in seven days. I know it’s just 24 hours but 24 hours makes a huge difference when you have such a quick turnaround.

“It’s also slightly better because last time we had the away game on Wednesday evening, it’s also difficult because you travel back to the training ground, then the players have to travel home. It’s more or less two or three o’clock in the morning when they get to sleep.

“When you have a home game everything is more relaxed and they have a proper night. Sleep is the most important topic on this level for professional athletes at this level.Jamie Shackleton has Leeds United chance he's been waiting for following Luke Ayling news - Leeds Live

“I’m not too concerned but we have a training session this afternoon and I want to talk to Sam and see if he feels fresh because he was brilliant in the last game and I would like to play him again but we’ll make a late decision with him.”

Farke also gave an update on Joe Rodon’s fitness and said the Wales centre-back was a warrior and fully fit.
