The All Blacks’ standout winger will miss the quarterfinals against Ireland.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE TEAM: All Blacks head coach Ian Foster has named his side to face Ireland in the World Cup quarterfinals in Paris on Saturday.
The match day 23 will be led out by captain Sam Cane in front of 80,000 supporters at Stade de France, with a total of 1366 Test caps.

“We are where we want to be,” head coach Ian Foster remarked.

“The World Cup quarterfinals are exciting for many reasons, and we understand the pressure that comes with them.”

“We’ve had a solid week of preparation and know that now it’s about trusting our work and going out to play.” We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from Kiwis both at home and in France. We sincerely appreciate it.”

Cane is joined in the starting loose forward trio by Ardie Savea and Shannon Frizell. It will be their first outing together since the team’s 35-20 victory against South Africa in Auckland.

Meanwhile, loosehead prop Ethan de Groot has returned from suspension to join front rowers Codie Taylor and Tyrel Lomax. Their most recent start was in the team’s 38-7 victory over Australia in Melbourne.

Leicester Fainga’anuku has been named on the left wing, with Beauden Barrett and Will Jordan in the back three, following an amazing hat-trick of tries against Namibia.

Because of Fainga’anuku’s selection, Blues back Mark Telea has been left out of the team.

“We have huge respect for Ireland who are number one in the world for a reason,” he said.

“We are excited about the opportunity that has been presented to us and anticipate being tested in a variety of ways.” That is the purpose of World Cups.”
