Pro Bowl safety Keanu Neal suffered an Achilles injury late in the second quarter of the Atlanta Falcons’ Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The injury occurred while Neal was in coverage, and he was visibly upset while being attended to by the training
staff. He was eventually carted off the field and taken into the locker room. Neal, 24, tore his ACL in the season opener of the 2018 season, and his return this season was one of the primary reasons for optimism for Atlanta’s defense.
A first-round pick in 2016, Neal had 10 tackles entering Sunday’s game and recorded four more tackles prior to the injury.
In addition to Neal’s injury, the team also announced that second-year running back Ito Smith would not return against the Colts after being evaluated for a possible concussion.
