Wigan Warriors playmaker Logan Astley’s new club has been confirmed

Oldham have fought off competition to sign Wigan Warriors starlet Logan Astley on a two-year deal from the 2024 campaign.

The 20-year-old playmaker featured twice in the first team under head coach Matt Peet, having made his debut in 2022 against the Huddersfield Giants.

Astley was a pivotal player in the unbeaten Wigan reserves side in 2022, as they lifted the Grand Final trophy, while he has previously made seven appearances for League 1 club Oldham, scoring 10 tries.Wigan Warriors: Logan Astley sets out his targets for the 2023 season as he  looks ahead to the Whitehaven game

He featured twice in 2023, including the 56-16 win over rivals Rochdale Hornets as well as a triumph over the North Wales Crusaders.

“The ambitions the club has and where it is looking to be in the next few years were the main reasons I wanted to come here,” Astley said.

“I really enjoyed my time at Oldham in the stints I’ve had. It was my first experience at the professional level, and I’m looking forward to playing at Boundary Park with some quality, experienced players.”

Astley is staying in Lancashire with Oldham RLFC

League 1 side Oldham RLFC have secured another exciting addition to their 2024 roster, as they have confirmed the permanent signing of highly-rated halfback Logan Astley from Super League Champions Wigan Warriors on a two-year deal.

Astley, a promising talent, made his debut for Wigan in 2022 against Huddersfield Giants. Astley knows Oldham well, playing for the club in two loan spells where he managed to accumulate seven appearances and impressively scored 10 tries. He also briefly featured for Featherstone Rovers earlier in the season.

His versatility is a key asset, as he can excel both in the halves and at fullback, offering a multi-dimensional skill set to the team. This latest acquisition is part of Oldham’s impressive recruitment drive in preparation for the 2024 season.

The Roughyeds have been proactive in securing new talent, with notable signings such as Joe Wardle, Jordan Turner, Jack Johnson, Adam Lawton, and Jay Chapelhow. Their ambition is clear, as they aim to bolster their squad and make a strong push for promotion to the Championship in the upcoming season.

Oldham have also posted in the statement that another new signing will be announced tomorrow.
