DONE DEAL: Fremantle and St Kilda agree on Henry swap – AFL trade news
The two parties bargained on the winger’s transfer price.
Liam Henry, a Fremantle speedster, has finalized his trade to St Kilda after the Dockers and Saints reached a reported deal on Monday.
Despite the fact that Henry formally nominated the Moorabbin club as his new home some time ago, the two clubs have had a difficult time arranging Henry’s Victorian transfer.
However, little over two days before the deadline, Fremantle agreed to trade the uncontracted winger to St Kilda in return for a future second-round pick, as well as a fourth-round pick in 2024.
Fremantle gains a 2024 second-round draft pick for next year after dealing their own selection of the same value to Port Adelaide last week. Following recent transactions with Collingwood and the Power, the Dockers now have three first-round picks in 2024.
While Henry played as a winger and through the midfield for Fremantle in 2023, the 22-year-old boasts the positional versatility to be able to push forward and cause havoc near the goal face as well.
His deployment in Moorabbin under Ross Lyon should be interesting to see.
Meanwhile, St Kilda has a number of other transactions to complete after landing Henry, including the sale of defender Nick Coffield to the Western Bulldogs and the signing of wantaway Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow.
Following the conclusion of the free agency signing period on Friday evening, the trade period is set to end on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:30 PM (AEDT).
