‘It’s pretty scary’: Mitchell Moses given police escort after Eels halfback receives death threats

Mitchell Moses has disclosed that he received death threats and had to be accompanied by riot police to and from Commbank Stadium on Friday night.

The Parramatta Eels defeated the fast-finishing Warriors 28-18 to stay in touch with the top four.

However, following Friday’s game, Moses had to be constantly monitored by security while conducting a post-game interview.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the threat was made to a person known to Moses throughout the week and was later reported to Moses before being passed on to the NRL.

The NRL is then said to have told police, who made sure an escort to and from the game was made available for Moses, who was secretly taken in and out of the stadium.

As an extra security measure, fans attending the game were subjected to searches by hand-held metal detectors.

Speaking on Triple M as a special guest on Saturday, Moses said it was “a bit tough” for his family and that the matter has been cleared up with the NRL.NRL 2022: Parramatta Eels star Mitchell Moses receives death threat, given police escort

“They [the NRL] looked after me,” he said.

“Bit of uncertainty, it’s a pretty scary thing. If they contacted me, it’s easier to handle, but when they go to your family,

“I think it was worse because the contact was with my family. When people start to get into your family, it’s harder. It was a couple of text messages and a couple of phone calls.

“It was non stop. It didn’t come through to me. It came to my family. To see them in that situation is not good for any person let alone a footballer.”
