Injury Update

Matt Peet has provided an update on Liam Byrne’s injury ahead of Friday’s Super League final round clash with the Leigh Leopards at Leigh Sports Village.

Liam Byrne, who left the field early in Wigan’s Round 25 win over Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Stadium, faces a long spell on the sidelines.

Speaking on the injury, Peet said, “It’s unlikely Liam will feature again this season, as we’re probably looking at an 8–10 week injury.

“It’s not ideal, and it’s a shame for both Liam and the club. Injuries are what you expect around this time of the season, so that’s why we speak about having a full squad ready to go.”

Liam Farrell missed the victory over the Castleford Tigers, and in his absence, Peet said, “It was just a precaution; Liam had a bit of a tight calf.”

The Warriors will continue to be without the injured Ethan Havard (hamstring), Willie Isa (pectoral), and Mike Cooper (knee).

Matt Peet gave an update on injuries from Robin Park Arena ahead of Wigan’s Round 16 clash with the Salford Red Devils on Sunday.

In his weekly press conference, Peet updated on injuries: “Kai Pearce-Paul and Willie Isa are working hard in the background from their injuries, and Sam Powell had an operation this morning.”

Explaining more about Sam Powell, Peet added, “He’s been playing with a small shoulder injury, so he’s had an operation on that now to tidy it up. He’s been playing through the year with a bit of pain, but playing bravely to help out his teammates. The operation is a small one but will see him out of action for around four weeks.”
