“There’ll be no sale” – Manager bullish as Aston Villa thrown into ring for signing

On Wednesday morning, we’ve seen the Portuguese media claiming Aston Villa are still one of the clubs in the race for Sporting winger Geny Catamo.

It was explained by newspaper Record that since the Lions only have 25% of the player’s transfer rights, they’ve been working to buy the remaining percentage from his former club Amora.

That story ended up being mentioned in the press conference that Sporting manager Ruben Amorim held today. He’s quoted by O Jogo talking about the situation, and made it very clear that Geny won’t be sold until the club buy his full rights.

“That’s up to the board. I’m quite comfortable with Geny’s situation because, as Sporting’s coach, there will be no sale. That’s every coach’s dream,” said Ruben Amorim.

“The club, having a small percentage of his licence, won’t sell him. In the future, they may even renew his contract, I don’t know. So Geny isn’t a problem for me, he’s more of a problem for the management. I’m calm about it.”

Aston Villa have been linked to the player for a couple of weeks now, with Fulham also mentioned as an interested side.

It’s been said that Sporting need €3m to buy the remaining percentage from Amora. They already tried to do that with less, but their offers weren’t accepted.

Of course, it makes no sense for them to sell the player and get only 25% of a transfer fee, so that must be sorted as soon as possible. And it seems Aston Villa will be watching.
