Week 10 NFC North predictions: Division-leading Lions return from bye, Vikings aim to keep good vibes going vs. Saints
The Detroit Lions come back from a bye week in the NFL with the intention of extending their lead in the NFC North. The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears want to avoid the division cellar, while the Minnesota Vikings want to keep up the strong work and pace. Our predictions for Week 10 are as follows:
Chicago Bears (2-7) vs. Carolina Panthers (1-7): A defeat doesn’t help either club, but the Bears and Panthers game on “Thursday Night Football” might have an impact on the draft. Thus, despite the cries of the national public, a game between two teams who have combined for three wins should still be a competitive match.
Regarding QB Justin Fields’ condition for Sunday, head coach Matt Eberflus provided an unclear update. Even yet, Fields was officially designated by the organization as doubtful, which means undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent will probably play in another game. Following a respectable start against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7, Bagent has returned to earth, completing 43 of 67 passes for 452 yards (6.76 yards per attempt) with two touchdowns and five interceptions. Carolina’s defense has been playing well lately, keeping their past two opponents, the Houston Texans (229) and Indianapolis Colts (198), to an average of 213.5 yards after giving up an average of 342 yards across their first six games. In addition, taking into consideration QB rookie Bryce Young’s two
Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) vs. Green Bay Packers (3-5): In Week 9, the Packers defeated the Los Angeles Rams without Matthew Stafford, snapping a four-game losing run. Although Kenny Pickett is not a huge improvement over Brett Rypien, the Packers can still face a lot of challenges from the Steelers. Although Pittsburgh is far from being the ideal team, they do have a strong defense—they are 13th in the league in points allowed (20.4)—and a timely offense that has won four games after coming from behind. The Steelers are strong on both lines as well, with the seventh-fewest sacks against in the league (19) and the seventh-most sacks in the AFC (26) in their record.
After their most recent late-fourth-quarter comeback victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 9, the Steelers are in great spirits.
Although the Packers had a good win the previous week, they have struggled with consistency this season and will again on Sunday. The Steelers will just dominate the Packers throughout the game and enjoy a more relaxed victory in Week 10, even if it won’t be as spectacular.
GUESSWORK: Steelers, 26–16
Minnesota Vikings (5-4) vs. New Orleans Saints (5-4): The unlikely fact is that the Vikings are still unbeaten even without quarterback Kirk Cousins and wide receiver Justin Jefferson. The Vikings, who have won two straight games owing to a valiant performance by Josh Dobbs this past Sunday, are riding high on a four-game winning streak and will aim to maintain it against the Saints.
The Vikings’ miserable run presents a chance for the Saints’ 17th-ranked running defense.
Even with their third quarterback right now, the Vikings are still winning. Jaren Hall was hurt, so Dobbs took over in relief. He finished with 123 yards overall and three touchdowns, including the game-winning pass to wide receiver Brandon Powell with 22 seconds remaining to help the Vikings defeat the Falcons 31-28. Dobbs will continue the good feelings in Week 10.
GUESSWORK: Vikings, 24–21
LA Chargers (4-4) vs. Detriot Lions (6-2): There’s a chance that the Lions and Chargers game ends in a shootout. Leading the way in passing attempts for each side will be Justin Herbert and Jared Goff, respectively. On Sunday, though, it might all come down to health.
Now that center Frank Ragnow and left guard Jonah Jackson are back, the Lions
