The Green Bay Packers announced they signed two offensive weapons to the 53-man roster a day before they’ll play the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. The Packers had to make the move after losing two skilled players to the injured reserve.

The Packers had a few running backs, including Aaron Jones, battling injury this week. Fortunately for the Packers, Jones won’t have to go on the injured reserve after sustaining an MCL strain. However, according to a statement by the Packers, they had to place Emmanuel Wilson on injured reserve.

The Packers lost tight end Luke Musgrave to IR as well. The Packers signed wide receiver Bo Melton and running back James Robinson with two spots that opened up Wednesday. Per the Packers statement, both players signed came from the practice squad:

Melton has been with the Packers since being signed off the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad on Dec. 27, 2022, and has been on Green Bay’s practice squad all of this season…

Robinson, who has had two stints on Green Bay’s practice squad this season, is a fourth-year player who was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois State by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. He has played in 39 games with 32 starts for the Jaguars (2020-22) and New York Jets (2022) and also spent time with the New England Patriots and New York Giants this past offseason.

For his career, Robinson has 514 carries for 2,262 yards (4.4 avg.) and 18 touchdowns, plus 91 receptions for 617 yards (6.8 avg.) and five TDs.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Robinson gets on the field against the Lions with Jones likely out and Wilson on injured reserve.
