When we learned the Buffalo Sabres star center Tage Thompson went down with a wrist injury, we knew he would miss an extended period of time.

We knew Tage Thompson would miss some time thanks to his wrist injury, but we didn’t know how long he would be out. Last night, it sounded like it would be for at least a while, if not for a massive portion of the year. Thankfully, however, the Buffalo Sabres star forward doesn’t look like he will miss over two months. Here is what head coach Don Granato said regarding the injury:

It is expected to be completed within a few months.
It’s increasing by the week.
We don’t have a specific date for him yet.

However, the good news is that we have a schedule to work towards until then.
The Buffalo Sabers could bring back Tage Thompson in early 2024.
With no target date set, no one other than the Blue and Gold training staff can say exactly when Teige will be back in a Sabers uniform.
However, according to Granato, it seems more likely that we won’t see the 26-year-old again until early 2024, which Granato says won’t happen until later this month or later this year.
That’s not the point.
Coming December?

We’re waiting a few days now, but in the meantime we need someone to fill the void he left.
Casey Mittelstadt is the frontrunner as he is in his contract season and did a good job when Tage slowed down with injury late in the 2022-23 season.
We also can’t rule out the possibility of Dylan Cozens, who made a big splash last year and may now be looking for his next step.
Hopefully it’s a team effort and everyone in the lineup will get their first chance to overcome this final adversity on Friday when the Buffalo Sabers travel to Winnipeg.
