Former Brewers player Darryl Hamilton found dead
Former Milwaukee Brewers player and announcer Darryl Hamilton, 50, died in a murder-suicide Sunday, according to reports from Texas.
KTRK reports that police were called to Hamilton’s home in Pearland around 4:45 p.m. Sunday on a report of a disturbance.
Police Lt. Patrick Savage said an initial investigation determined Hamilton was shot several times and that a woman in the home died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was identified as Monica Jordan.
Jordan, 44, was also found inside the home suffering from a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said the couple’s 14-month-old child was also in the home, but was not harmed.
Hamilton played for the Brewers in 1988 and 1990-1995. He played major league baseball for 13 years before becoming an analyst for the Angels of Anaheim and the MLB Network.
“Obviously tragic sorrow. You obviously feel sorry for him for obviously that happening. His family, friends, you know, a lot of people here in the Milwaukee area knew him, loved him, were in his wedding, so there’s a lot of sorrow,” Brewers hitting coach Darnell Coles said.
“All of us are stunned and saddened with the news of this horrible tragedy, something that is impossible for us to even begin to comprehend,” said Brewers President – Baseball Operations and General Manager Doug Melvin, who also served as general manager during Hamilton’s lone season with the Texas Rangers in 1996.
Melvin added, “Our thoughts and prayers go to Darryl’s family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. Darryl was a wonderful player for our organization, but more importantly, he was a true gentleman and a great friend to many here.”
“All of us at Major League Baseball are shocked and saddened by this tragedy,” MLB Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. said in a statement. “He was a talented and personable individual, and we were proud to call him a member of the Baseball Family.”
