Mike Tomlin Fires Clear Message on Steelers Offensive Breakout Against Bengals
A two-game winning streak that was questionable for head coach Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers offense ended on November 26th.
The Steelers gained 421 yards of offense in Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
It was the first time since Week 2 of the 2020 season that Pittsburgh had over 400 yards of offense.
With an explosive offense, the Steelers outscored the Bengals 421-222.
It was the first time in the 2023 season that the Steelers defeated an opponent in a game.
But none of this seemed to matter to Tomlin.
When asked how his team’s offense looked in Week 12, Tomlin simply talked about the end result.
“I’m not trying to paint with a broad brush and act like ‘Eureka,'” Tomlin told reporters at the postgame press conference.
“Look, I did what I needed to do today, and I’ll continue to do my best.
” I’m glad I won.

Pittsburgh scored just 16 points against Cincinnati, just below the team’s average of 16.
6 points per game.
This average ranks him 28th in points per contest for the Steelers this season.
But there’s no question that Pickett and the Steelers’ offense improved significantly in the first game after firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
Pickett threw for a season-high 278 yards and connected passes to eight different receivers.
Pickett utilized the middle of the field throughout the afternoon, completing 11 of 24 passes to tight ends.
“I thought we gave the ball away.
I thought we changed it schematically and did something different.
It’s a starting point,” Tomlin told the media.
“I thought we attacked the field early when they were in the split safety zone, but we weren’t going to let them sit comfortably all day.
We did what we had to do.
Tomlin He called tight end Pat Freiermuth “important.
” Freiermuth had nine receptions and 120 receiving yards, both career highs.
Freiermuth was open as usual in the middle of the field and in the flat when the Bengals ran two high safeties to thwart big-play opportunities from Diontae Johnson and George Pickens.
Freiermuth led the Steelers with 11 goals.
Pittsburgh enters Week 12 ranked 25th with a third down conversion rate of 34.
6%.
In Week 12, the Steelers went 8 of 17 on third down.
“I thought in the second quarter they were going to get some possession and maybe have a lull,” Tomlin said.
“They stimulated us very well with their pressure structure, but once we made some adjustments, the second half was a little smoother.
” Mike Tomlin says Steelers offense isn’t on curve Steelers Leading the NFL’s offense to its first 400-yard game in more than three years is an impressive feat for first-time offensive coordinator Eddie Faulkner.
On Nov.
26, Steelers quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan also announced his first offensive play since 2017.
But Tomlin wasn’t celebrating the 400 yards or the impressive game plan Faulkner and Sullivan put together in such a short amount of time.
