Cowboys injury report: Johnathan Hankins and Malik Hooker miss practice

The Cowboys enter Week 15 of the regular season on a high. As things currently stand, the Cowboys are in first place in the NFC East after trouncing the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night by a score of 33-13. The Cowboys’ offense has been superb behind Dak Prescott’s ascension to a league MVP candidate. His continued growth will be needed this week as the Cowboys travel to western New York to take on the Buffalo Bills. Per usual, health is paramount for the Cowboys to continue winning. Here is where the Cowboys stand regarding injuries to open their week of practice.

The Cowboys continued their trend of managing the practice load of their veterans on Wednesday and gave the day off to Tyron Smith and Zack Martin. Plenty of other veterans also got the day off.

The Cowboys’ clean bill of health continues somewhat as most other players on the roster participated in practice in some capacity, minus Jonathan Hankins, who suffered an ankle injury against the Eagles, and Malik Hooker. Hankins is in good spirits after the injury and is expected to return at some point this season, but he is likely to miss this week. Today was only a walk-through so the Hooker situation isn’t clear just yet. .

Cowboys recent practice squad pickup looks genius after brutal defensive injury

On the Bills’ side, Buffalo has opened the 21-day practice window for one of their players. Receiver Justin Shorter is set to return to practice after being on injured reserve throughout the 2023 season.

Safety Micah Hyde did not practice Wednesday with a neck injury and neither did DE A.J. Epenesa with a rib issue. Buffalo Rumblings noted:

The Colts are awaiting test results on injuries to WR Parris Campbell and S Malik Hooker

Today, however, McDermott was even more non-committal about the immediate future of the 32-year-old Hyde and the 25-year-old Epenesa: when asked about the possibility of injured reserve (IR), he simply said, “We’ll see.”

Rookie tight Dalton Kincaid was limited by thumb and shoulder ailments. Josh Allen is also on the report but is cited as a full participant.
