Former West Virginia LB James Heard, from Fran Brown’s hometown, will transfer to Syracuse

Syracuse., N.Y. West Virginia transfer linebacker James Heard Jr. announced on Sunday that he has committed to play for the Syracuse football team.

Heard played in three games as a true freshman with the Mountaineers last year and did not record a statistic. That means he comes to Syracuse with four years of college eligibility remaining.

Despite the fact that these players departed from the organization, it’s entertaining to keep an eye on former Bills players and see how they fare after they leave Orchard Park.

Here’s what some former Buffalo Bills players did in Week 5:

Former Buffalo Bills receiver Zay Jones had a decent showing against his previous team in London. Not only did the Jaguars win their second international game this season, but Jones had three catches for 23 yards and one touchdown. His longest reception was at the start of the second quarter. He took the pass to Jacksonville’s 27-yard line for a 10-yard gain.

The third-round pick of the 2020 NFL Draft had a monster day on the ground for the Colts to help pull out a 23-16 victory over the Titans. Although Jonathon Taylor was just signed to a massive three-year, $42 million contract, the former Bills back led the rushing attack for Indianapolis.

Moss had 165 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns. His longest run was a 56-yard touchdown as time expired in the first quarter to lead 7-3. He then capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown to go ahead 17-13.

Robert Woods (Houston, Texas)

The receiver was targeted nine times in Houston’s 21-19 loss against the Atlanta Falcons. He had 30 yards on three receptions, his longest being a 13-yarder.

Woods was drafted by the Bills in 2013 and played four seasons in Orchard Park before he signed with the Rams, where he played for five seasons and made an appearance in “the big game.” He signed a deal with the Texans in the offseason after spending one year with the Titans.

Taylor was signed to Buffalo as a free agent in 2015 and helped lead the Bills to a playoff game in 2017, which ended their 17-year streak without a playoff berth. He was traded to the Browns in 2018 after Josh Allen was drafted and then spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans before he signed with the Giants in 2022.

In the Week 5 loss to the Dolphins, Taylor was 9-of-12 with 86 yards. He came in for Daniel Jones early in the fourth quarter after Jones was sacked and injured on the play.

Brian Daboll, Head Coach (New York Giants)

Daboll is not a player; rather, he spent four seasons as the Bills’ offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. He was named the 2020 AP Assistant Coach of the Year and helped develop gunslinger Josh Allen.

The West Seneca, N.Y., native was hired as the Giants’ head coach at the end of the 2022 season. In his debut season as head coach, he led the Giants to a 9-7 overall record.

But New York is off to a slow start this season, as they boast a 1-4 record that has featured a blowout loss to the Cowboys in Week 1 and only three points scored against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4.

The Giants lost to the Dolphins, 31-16, and now have to gear up to face the Bills at Highmark Stadium next Sunday night. In the loss, the team gave up 524 yards.
