‘They had my back:’ Despite serious injury, Evan Taylor remains key Nebraska commit.
Evan Taylor felt the pain in his knee and dropped to the turf.
Just one week into his senior high school season, Taylor’s immediate thoughts were about his teammates, his season and what he’d miss out on. But when news of the severity of the injury arrived — he’d suffered damage to his ACL, MCL and PCL ligaments—Taylor’s concern was about his long-term future.
Not just of his health but of his opportunity to play college football.
In the high-stakes world of modern college football, every scholarship offer is akin to a business transaction, and if a player gets hurt afterward, that can change how schools view their future potential. It’s not uncommon for schools to rescind their scholarship offer altogether after a serious injury.
Taylor didn’t have to worry for long about whether he was still in Nebraska’s plans or not.
“Normally, I knew that I should be concerned about losing my scholarship, but Nebraska had already told me up front that they were all in on me no matter what,” Taylor said. “It was definitely a relief to know that they had my back.”
