4-star cornerback Jameer Grimsley signs with Alabama
Despite a hard push from the in-state Gators, Grimsley is sticking with Alabama
Four-star cornerback Jameer Grimsley (Tampa, FL) has kept his pledge with the Crimson Tide, despite a hard push from Florida. Grimsley signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday afternoon at Tampa Catholic High School. The No. 17 cornerback will join Alabama for Rose Bowl practice after Christmas.
“Just the winning atmosphere and culture Bama has set in place. There’s a reason they’re always at the top and they’ve always been at the top. And that’s something I want to be a part of. They put DBs in the league consistently and I know I will be developed and achieve my dreams if I stay humble and work hard, it will all work out!”
Grimsley was injured much of the year with an ankle. He is completely recovered and ready to go with the Crimson Tide.

Scouting Report via Andrew Ivins:
“A gangly defensive back prospect with two-way production and verified foot speed. Measurements aren’t verified, but in-person evaluations suggest that he’s well north of 6-foot and equipped with long limbs. Quick-twitched athlete with sudden movement patterns that can chew up grass. Has advanced ball skills, which likely stems from extensive offensive background as a wide receiver. Isn’t the most technically buttoned up defender, but has a knack for creating turnovers and finding ways to the football. Projects as more of a field corner with his length and range, but isn’t afraid to come up and strike a ball carrier, which means that might also be able to find work in a boundary role or even at safety. Transferred schools in advance of senior season in hopes of facing better competition. Will likely need a developmental year or two before he’s ready to go Saturdays, but has the tools to eventually emerge as a multi-year starter at the Power Five level. Track times (21.89 in the 200-meter dash) and frame are likely to draw looks from NFL scouts one day if he can avoid setbacks and keep progressing.”
What Alabama is getting: Grimsley fits the mold of what Nick Saban and his staff have looked for in boundary cornerbacks for a long time. Lengthy athlete with great speed. Grimsley will likely need to put on a little more weight and be developed for a year, but he can be a key part of the secondary in a season or two.
