Nebraska signs Miami linebacker Vincent Shavers
Nebraska added a talented defender in Miami linebacker Vincent Shavers.
Nebraska turned a late official visit into a signing, as Miami Central (Fla.) linebacker Vincent Shavers signed Wednesday with the Big Red, fresh off his weekend visit.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Shavers had been a long-time Miami commitment but opened his recruitment on Friday, the same day he left for an official visit to the Big Red.
Shavers announced a commitment over offers from Arizona State, Cincinnati, Florida, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas and others. He had been committed to Miami since May.
Nebraska worked quickly to get a visit from Shavers. Nebraska’s entire defensive staff, plus defensive quality control staffer Phil Simpson, visited Shavers in Florida in the middle of the week ahead of his visit.
Shavers has put together a productive high school career and will be one of a small number of true linebackers in Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting class.
MaxPreps has Shavers at 46 tackles — 14.0 for loss—and seven sacks in eight games as a senior.
Shavers spent his junior season at Miami Monsignor Pace, where he totaled 56 tackles. Believed to be a strong pass rusher, Shavers also totaled 10 quarterback hurries and collected eight sacks in 2022. He also broke up a pair of passes and forced a couple of fumbles while also intercepting a pass.
He’s another enrollee for the Huskers. His father told Husker247 that the linebacker plans to arrive on campus on Jan. 13.
