Tottenham have reached an agreement with Empoli for Guglielmo Vicario, according to Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Spurs have been strongly linked with Brentford goalkeeper David Raya since a long time and the Spanish goalkeeper looked to be Tottenham bound.
However, recent reports indicated that Tottenham might withdraw from the potential deal with Brentford due to the high asking price set by the club.
Transfer Insider Dean Jones also shared that Spurs have initiated a search for an alternative option, showing their unwillingness to meet Brentford’s demands.
Paul O’Keefe reported yesterday that Guglielmo Vicario was among the goalkeepers “under consideration” by Tottenham.
And today, it has been disclosed that not only is Vicario under consideration, but Tottenham have moved in swiftly to secure an agreement with Empoli.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, a prominent reporter from Sky Sports, there is a “verbal agreement” between Empoli and Spurs, with a reported fee of €20 million.
The Italian club is now awaiting an official offer, which is expected to arrive “in the coming hours.”
He tweeted:
“Verbal agreement in principle between Empoli FC and Spurs for Vicario transfer on a €20m deal.
Empoli are waiting for the written, official offer, to land in the coming hours.”
Spurs have been on the search for a new number-one goalkeeper to replace club captain Hugo Lloris.
The Frenchman has had a a drastic drop in form over the last year and is now expected to be one of the players to leave Tottenham this summer
He has already admitted his desire to leave the club and Spurs are reportedly also willing to sell him after another poor season from him.
His contract expires next summer and they will hope to cash in on him this year.
Saudi club Al-Hilal have already offered him a lucrative offer that will see him triple his current salary while his hometown club Nice are also interested in a move for him.
