A former New York Giants player dies at age 40
Offensive lineman Shane Olivea, who played for the New York Giants in 2008, has died. He was 40.
No cause of death was given for the Cedarhurst, N.Y., native.
Roman Oben, a former teammate of Olivea and the NFL vice president of football development, reported the news on social media.
Olivea, a 6-foot-4, 312-pounder who played his college ball at Ohio State, was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with San Diego and helped pave the way for Charger running back LaDainian Tomlinson’s NFL single-season touchdown record in 2006.
