Michigan Football: Former Five-Star QB Target Set To Enter Transfer Portal

It was considered a pretty big loss when the Wolverines didn’t land the former five-star local prospect, but now there’s a chance he could end up in Ann Arbor.

It was considered a pretty big loss when the Michigan Wolverines didn’t land five-star quarterback Dante Moore out of high school. For a long time, Michigan was considered the logical choice for the 6-3, 210-pound prospect out of Detroit, but Moore ultimately settled for playing football on the west coast.

Now, after just one season at UCLA, Moore is reportedly set to enter the transfer portal.

“For these next few years, I just want to go to a place where I can get developed,” Moore told 247Sports. “That’s the main thing: really developing yourself, making sure you’re bettering yourself every day and having a staff around you that’s going to help develop you. So I’d say the biggest things are going to a place where I can get developed, continue to love and have fun playing football be around a place that loves college football and be around great athletes.”

Whether or not there would be a fit for him in Ann Arbor at this point is still a question. JJ McCarthy, who is the undisputed QB1 at Michigan, will have a decision to make at the end of the 2023 season. He can either declare for the NFL Draft as a presumptive first-round pick or opt to return for another year at Michigan, where he could potentially develop himself into a potential first- or second-round pick.

And then, of course, there are guys like sophomore Alex Orji and incoming freshman Jadyn Davis. Both quarterbacks present intriguing options for the Wolverines moving forward, and both have the opportunity to make a serious run at the top QB spot at Michigan in 2024, assuming McCarthy decides to declare for the league.

There’s no doubt that Harbaugh and Co. have been extremely active in the portal over the last few years when it comes to supplementing their roster, and there’s every reason to believe they’ll do the same this off-season. Will the former Detroit product be in the mix? It’s certainly worth keeping an eye on.
