Rumoured Tottenham target, Pepe, has handed the Premier League side a blow by expressing his intention to remain at Porto.

Pepe was one of Porto’s most impressive performers across the 2022-23 season, finishing the campaign with 15 goal contributions (Transfermarkt).

The winger’s displays have allegedly caught Tottenham’s attention, with  A Bola reporting last week that the North London club and Paris Saint-Germain were both ready to substantiate their interest in the player.

The publication alleged that Porto would not be willing to let the 26-year-old leave unless his €75m (£64.1m) release clause is met.

Tottenham’s interest in Pepe was also backed up by UOL on Monday, with the outlet claiming that the player’s representatives had already held a meeting with the Lilywhites regarding a potential transfer.

Pepe hints at Porto stay despite Tottenham rumours

However, the Porto star has now poured cold water over the speculation by asserting that he wants to remain at Estadio do Dragao.

When asked about the transfer rumours, Pepe told Globo Esporte: “My future is at Porto. I have a contract until 2027. I’m thinking of resting and then having a great season.

“We know that when we make great games, we end up awakening this interest, but my focus has always been on Porto.

“I always try to improve and evolve. If it happens, we evaluate it in the right time.”

With Porto not willing to sell Pepe unless his release clause is met, the 26-year-old’s admission that he is not going to push for a move away from the Portuguese club pretty much ends the hopes that Tottenham or any other club had of swooping for the winger this summer.
