Sad news: Kentucky Wildcats coach has been fired due to……

Kentucky has parted ways with its first assistant coach following the conclusion of the regular season.

The Kentucky Wildcats are going to be in the market for at least one new assistant coach for the 2024 season.

While the 2023 season has plenty of highs, it wasn’t what Mark Stoops hoped to accomplish, as Kentucky struggled mightily against elite teams like Georgia and Alabama while also losing winnable games to Missouri, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

That’s why it’s no surprise that changes will be made to Stoops’ staff, and we have our first one.

According to Football Scoop, wide receivers coach Scott Woodward is being let go.

“Sources tell FootballScoop that Stoops is parting ways with third-year receivers coach Scott Woodward,” wrote John Brice.

Woodward just completed his third season as Kentucky’s receivers coach. He was previously an offensive quality control coach at Pittsburgh (2019–20), which came after a five-year stint at UMass (2015–19), working with wide receivers, quarterbacks, and tight ends.

While the program had a wealth of talent at receiver, that position underperformed far too often, primarily due to drops and poor route running.

Now, the search begins for a position group that could, barring potential transfer portal moves, feature Barion Brown, Dane Key, Anthony Browns-Stephens, Shamar Porter, and incoming 4-star recruit Hardley Gilmore. That should make this an attractive job for a new receivers coach.

Hopefully, Woodward lands on his feet elsewhere.
