Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has made contact with Guglielmo Vicario ahead of his proposed move to North London, and it appears there is not long to go now until the deal is made official.

It is well documented that Spurs were after a new number-one goalkeeper this summer, mainly due to the drastic drop in the form of Hugo Lloris last season.

The Frenchman is expected to leave the club in the near future, after admitting he is ready for a new challenge (Nice-Matin).

Until recently, it seemed David Raya would leave Brentford and sign for Tottenham. The Times reported that Spurs had agreed personal terms with the Spanish stopper, but were struggling to land on a transfer fee with the Bees.

Over the last few days, a new target emerged in the form of Empoli keeper Guglielmo Vicario, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting just yesterday that Tottenham had reached an agreement in principle with the Serie A side on a deal thought to be worth €20 million (£17.2 million).

Postecoglou has already spoken to Vicario

Now, the transfer appears to be nearing its conclusion according to London World, with verbal agreement reached and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou having made contact with his new goalkeeper.

The report claims “personal terms have never been an issue” when it comes to securing the deal for Vicario. Tottenham are now expected to submit a “written offer” to Empoli in the immediate future.

Postecoglou has spoken to the 26-year-old to personally “express his interest,” and it is thought the Lilywhites are “happy with what they have seen.”

The deal is believed to include “easily attainable add-ons” and now, “paperwork continues to be processed.”

Since the report in question was published, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also declared his famous “Here we go” on the Vicario deal, and claimed the keeper “will be in London in the next hours” to conclude the transfer.

He wasn’t my first choice to be our new number-one goalkeeper, but I’m very happy that we have got such a key position sorted so early in the transfer window.
