Blue Devils 6-Under Play Suspended At Stitch Intercollegiate

CARY: The Duke men’s golf team, led by freshmen Ian Siebers and Jimmy Zheng, began play at the Stitch Intercollegiate on Friday at MacGregor Downs Golf Course in Cary. Due to inclement weather and darkness, play was suspended midway through the second round.

When the second round resumes Saturday morning, the Blue Devils will be 6-under through 26 holes and in sixth place. Siebers and Zheng are both in the top twenty on the individual leaderboard.

Siebers shot a 1-under 71 in round one and was 3-under through eight holes in the second round when play was halted by lightning. The freshman from Bellevue, Wash., is tied for 10th at 4-under after 26 holes. After starting the tournament with a bogey, the freshman shot 5-under.

Zheng shot a 4-under 68 in the morning round and went 2-over in round two to finish tied for 19th at 2-under par. The Auckland, New Zealand, native was 5-under through his first nine holes with five birdies and added three more birdies on the back before a double bogey on 18 to finish with 68. He then recovered from a quadruple bogey on the first hole of round two with two birdies and an eagle in his next four holes.

Saturday’s schedule calls for play to resume at 8:30 a.m. with the rest of round two, followed by the final round. Live scoring will be available from Golfstat.

Also for Duke, Steven DiLisio is tied for 29th at even par with Evan Katz.

NC State leads the tournament at 21-under par, followed by Notre Dame (-20), Virginia Tech (-19), East Tennessee State (-17), College of Charleston (-11), and Duke (-6), who make up half of the 12-team field. Christian Salzer of NC State leads the individual leaderboard with a score of 9 under par.
