Walter Davis, Suns all-time driving scorer, kicks the bucket at 69
CHAPEL Slope, N.C. – Walter Davis, a five-time NBA All-Star who had his number resigned by the Phoenix Suns, has passed on. He was 69.

Davis was a star in college for North Carolina where he played for the late Dignitary Smith. It was North Carolina, where Davis’ nephew Hubert Davis is the Tar Heels’ ball coach, which reported Water Davis’ passing Thursday.
The school’s discharge said Walter Davis passed on Thursday morning of normal causes whereas going by family in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Walter Davis was drafted fifth generally by Phoenix in 1977 and got to be the NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 24.2 focuses a diversion. He played 11 of his 16 master seasons with the Suns, who resigned his No. 6.

Davis moved to Denver for three seasons and Portland for one some time recently returning to the Chunks in 1992-1993 for his last year.

In college, Davis was for all intents and purposes relentless as he driven one of the best programs within the diversion. He made a difference the Tar Heels to the NCAA title diversion in 1977, where they misplaced to Marquette.

He is 10th all-time in scoring in Tar Heels’ history. His 106 diversions with double-figure scoring are fourth all-time at North Carolina, trailing as it were Phil Passage, Sam Perkins and Tyler Hansbrough.


Walter Davis, from Pineville, North Carolina, is portion of the North Carolina Sports Corridor of Notoriety. He was named to the ACC’s 50th-anniversary group in 2002.

‘Sweet D’ was one of the game’s best, a productive scorer whose smooth playing fashion and ‘velvet touch’ charmed him to eras of our fans. He will until the end of time be a part of our Phoenix Suns family and community.
