Tennessee Volunteers lose key starter via transfer portal.
The Tennessee Volunteers will reportedly lose another talented player through the transfer portal. Gerald Mincey, the starting offensive lineman, announced on Thursday that he intends to enter the portal.
Mincey joined Tennessee after the 2021 season, transferring from the Florida Gators. Mincey started 7 games at left tackle and appeared in 9. Mincey switched to the right side in 2023 and appeared in six games. The tackle battled injuries down the stretch but was a reliable starter for most of the season.
Mincey is the 12th Vol to join the portal this offseason.
Mincey is the most recent member of the Vols’ 2023 roster to depart. Several defensive backs have left, including Tamarion McDonald, Wesley Walker, and Doneiko Slaughter.
Tyler Baron, a talented edge rusher, has left, as have Mo Clipper Jr. and Addison Nichols, both offensive linemen.
Who will replace Mincey?
The Vols will most likely use the portal to find a Mincey replacement. Dayne Davis is the only player on the roster with experience at right tackle. Four-star prospect Bennett Warren will arrive on campus soon, but the team is unlikely to throw a freshman into the fire.
Expect the Vols to search the portal for a veteran stopgap.
