Latest Birmingham City news as Blues midfielder Jobe Bellingham looks set to complete a transfer to Sunderland
Birmingham City midfielder Jobe Bellingham is reportedly set to move a step closer to signing for Championship rivals Sunderland “this week”.
The 17-year-old is the brother of Borussia Dortmund star and former Blues player Jude and is seen as another promising talent from the Bellingham family. He made 23 appearances for John Eustace’s team this season in what was his first full campaign as a senior footballer.
And now Jobe appears set to move to the North East. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano posted an update on Twitter, claiming that Bellingham will soon finalise a £3million move to the Stadium of Light.
He tweeted: “While Jude Bellingham is set to complete his move to Real Madrid… his brother Jobe Bellingham is expected to travel to Sunderland this week. #SAFC Medical tests are scheduled ahead of £3m move from Birmingham City.”
The midfielder has been courted by the Black Cats sporting director Kristjaan Speakman over the past 18 months, according to ChronicleLive. They report that he has watched several Sunderland games and was in attendance for the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final win over Luton Town.
They also report that Speakman is a family friend of the Bellingham’s having helped both brothers during their rise through the Birmingham City academy. Jobe is approaching the final year of his contract at Blues and Sunderland appear to have sprung into action.
