Rams might have more cap space than expected

Why the Rams might have an additional $8 million to spend on free agents

OvertheCap.com, a salary cap expert website, has estimated a 2024 salary cap of $242 million during the previous year. This leaves the Los Angeles Rams with $27.7 million in cap space for the upcoming season. OTC estimates $24.8 million in “effective” cap space; this does not include a few items that will take up a small portion of that space, but it is generally believed to be close to what will occur. We now know that there’s a chance the Rams might win by as much as $8 million.

On Monday, there were rumors that the salary ceiling may be $243 million. However, Mike Florio of PFT stated that a source claimed the actual amount would likely be substantially higher, possibly as high as $250 million. That would indicate that Los Angeles has more like $36 million in cap space rather than the estimated $28 million.

This kind of information has the potential to keep players like Ahkello Witherspoon and Kevin Dotson with the squad for the upcoming campaign.

Along with John Johnson, Demarcus Robinson, Carson Wentz, Jordan Fuller, and Brycen Hopkins, Dotson and Witherspoon are unrestricted free agents; A.J. Jackson and Michael Hoecht are not.

Next week is when the real pay cap is anticipated to be revealed. Every year, the NFL and the NFLPA negotiate the number, and while it wasn’t anticipated to rise this season, these most recent reports suggest that it might. Although the Rams gain from having more money to spend, their rivals, like the cap-constrained San Francisco 49ers, also gain from it.
