Grading Texas Tech football recruiting class: How did Red Raiders fare?

Coach Joey McGuire of Texas Tech football and his staff signed a class that was ranked in the top 25 nationally and first among the Big 12’s surviving members, carrying over the momentum they had built on the recruiting road the year before.

Tech completed the class on December’s early signing day and, as was to be expected, did not add anyone on Wednesday, the first day of the regular signing period. The star player is Micah Hudson, a wide receiver from Temple Lake Belton. He is ranked No. 16 in the country and No. 4 in Texas in the 247Sports composite index, making him one of the program’s all-time highest-ranked recruits.

The depth of quality runs deep, though, with Tech landing five prospects among the state’s top 40 in the 247Sports composite: Hudson, Prosper offensive tackle Ellis Davis, Hutto quarterback Will Hammond, Sachse defensive edge player Cheta Ofili and Pflugerville Weiss safety Peyton Morgan. Seven more Tech signees are among the state’s top 100.
