Reliever Trevor Gott finalize $1.5 million, 1-year contract with Athletics

California’s Oakland (AP) — Trevor Gott, a right-handed reliever, and the Oakland Athletics agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal on Tuesday.

The transaction returns the seasoned pitcher to the Bay Area, where he previously worked as the San Francisco Giants closer.

Gott is eligible for $50,000 in performance bonuses for each of the 45 and 50 games he pitches. If he was traded, he would receive a $100,000 assignment bonus.

A’s general manager David Forst texted, “We are looking to add some experience to our pitching staff and our bullpen.” Trevor wanted to go back to the Bay Area and has pitched effectively in our division.

The 31-year-old Gott pitched 64 games for the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners last season, going 0-5 with a 4.19 ERA, one save, and 62 strikeouts and 19 walks.
