SDSU basketball coach’s big payday

According to the Union-Tribune, head basketball coach Brian Dutcher of San Diego State University will now be paid the highest salary of any employee in the CSU system, taking home $2.3 million this season.

Why this matters Last season, Dutcher guided the Aztecs to their first-ever NCAA national championship game in Mountain West Conference and SDSU history. This new five-year contract helps the university retain him at the helm.

The small print: Dutcher’s pay will increase from $1.4 million as a result of the recently inked contract extension.

According to the newspaper, he will receive yearly raises of $100,000 up to $2.7 million in 2027–2028 when the contract expires.
$10.2 million is currently his buyout price.
Yes, but under the new contract, Dutcher’s performance incentives—such as winning a conference title—were reduced.

In summary, Dutcher receives the highest salary of any coach in the Mountain West yet does not rank in the top 50 nationwide.
