Andrew Thomas and the Giants agree to a five-year, $117 million contract that includes an OL-record guarantee.
The New York Giants have given Andrew Thomas a record-breaking contract extension following his breakout 2022 season.
On Wednesday, the team announced that Thomas had signed a multiyear extension.
Thomas’ agent, John Thornton, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the contract is worth $117.5 million over five years, with an offe
nsive line record $67 million in fully guaranteed money.
The Giants already had Thomas under contract until 2024 after picking up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract earlier this offseason.
Thomas, selected fourth overall in the 2020 draft, appeared to be a bust as a rookie. His first season was, in his own words, “embarrassing.”
“You want to play well,” Thomas told The Athletic’s Dan Duggan in November about his first-year difficulties. “You don’t want to use bad footage on film. It doesn’t feel good.”
Thomas improved significantly in his second se
ason. After allowing only 18 pressures in 517 pass-blocking snaps, Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 80th-best player in the NFL for the 2021 season.
The 2022 season was a revelation for Thomas. He ranked tenth among all offensive tackles in ESPN’s pass-block win rate (93 percent).
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler’s survey of coaches, scouts, executives, and players, Thomas is the league’s seventh-best offensive tackle.
His $23.5 million average annual salary places him second among all left tackles. The only player ahead of him is Laremy Tunsil of the Houston Texans ($25 million per season). His total value is $117.5 million, trailing only San Francisco 49ers star Trent Williams ($138.06 million).
Thomas played 45 games for the Giants over three seasons. He has made 44 starts and was named to the All-Pro Second Team last season.
