A look at WVU’s gains and losses through the transfer portal

College football clubs have depended on athletes from other universities to fill positions over the offseason since the transfer portal’s introduction in 2018. With the arrival of players through the transfer portal, head coach Neal Brown and his staff want to seize command of the squad as he begins his sixth season with the Mountaineers.

Arriving Transfers
Reid Carrico
Ohio State’s Reid Carrico is a 225-pound, 6-foot-3-inch linebacker. After the 2023 season, Carrico was the ninth-ranked linebacker in the country.

Carrico had a four-star ranking from ESPN and was named Ohio Division V South East District Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year in his last year of high school.

Throughout his three years at Ohio State, Carrico didn’t record many numbers. But in 2024, he might contribute significantly to the Mountaineers’ defense.

Crandall, T.J.
With a large number of graduation and transfers in the secondary, West Virginia might require assistance to bring the team back to its previous level. To guarantee the strength and depth of the secondary, Colorado State cornerback T.J. Crandall was added to the roster.

Crandall finished his first campaign with the Rams with 19 total tackles and 1 interception. He is rated as a three-star player on On3.com’s transfer portal.

Jaden Bray

The Mountaineers relied on the running game last season. Although the passing game showed it could be dangerous last year, Brown added depth to the group with wide receiver Jaden Bray from Oklahoma State.

Bray spent three seasons with the Cowboys, recording 686 yards and four touchdown receptions. He stands at 6-feet-3-inches and is a reliable speed threat for West Virginia’s wide receiver room.
