Indiana in Contact With Penn Transfer Guard Clark Slajchert

Penn guard Clark Slajchert, who averaged 18.0 points and hit 42.2% from three as a senior in 2023–24, is one of Indiana’s targets in the transfer portal.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Although Indiana still has to play in the Big Ten Tournament, the coaching staff has already made contact with the Hoosiers through the transfer portal. First, there’s 6-foot-1 guard Clark Slajchert, a transfer from Penn who entered the portal with one year left on his eligibility after Penn’s 11-18 season. Slajchert led Penn with 18.0 points per game. Indiana needs 3-point shooters, and Slajchert could contribute after shooting 42.2% on 6.1 attempts per game and 135 total attempts in 2023–24. In addition, he added 3.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 48.7% from the field and 82.4% from the free throw line.

Slajchert scored 13.6 points a night on average and made 34.5% of his 3-pointers in 2022–2023 as a junior. As a sophomore in 2021–2022 he hit 35.3% from three point range and scored 10.7 points per game off the bench. In 2020–21, the Ivy League suspended all winter sports because of COVID-19.

Across his three-year career at Penn, Slajchert played in 74 games, made 50 starts and shot 37.9% on 319 3-point attempts. He’s originally from Oak Park High School in Los Angeles, Calif.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton and Jamie Shaw, other schools that have been in contact with Slajchert include UCLA, Clemson, Penn State, Loyola-Chicago, Cal, Texas A&M, Rutgers, San Francisco, SMU, Vermont, Wyoming, George Washington, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Davidson, UC-San Diego, Montana State, Towson, FAU, Arkansas and Loyola-Marymount.

By the start of the 2024–25 season, Indiana will have at least three open scholarships. Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker will no longer be eligible after this season, and coach Mike Woodson left one scholarship vacant. Indiana’s efforts to recruit through the transfer portal are crucial to the team’s success the next season, as that number might increase even more if players choose to enter the NBA Draft or transfer portal.
