USC Women’s Basketball: Trojans Say “Don’t Pick Us” in NCAA Tournament Ad

The USC Trojans sent out a clear message to fans filling out their brackets for the NCAA women’s basketball tournament: “Don’t pick us.”

This is a warning not to get on the USC bandwagon just yet, not a declaration of their lack of faith in their squad.

The team detailed all the reasons why the Trojans have been questioned this season, particularly coming into the campaign, in an advertisement for the event that ran in The Player’s Tribune.

Rayah Marshall began the video’s message, saying, “You want some advice while filling out your bracket this year? Don’t pick us.”

The Trojans then pointed out how coming into the season, they ranked just No. 21. Now, they rank No. 3 heading into March Madness, their highest ranking in almost four decades

There were doubts about the Trojans even within their conference. It was anticipated that USC would place sixth in the Pac-12, but in reality, they would win the conference tournament.

The Trojans have obviously outperformed every prediction made for them at the start of the season. But this group of players is fresh to the group. This season, the Trojans added Kayla Padilla, a transfer; Kaitlyn Davis; McKenzie Forbes; and Pac-12 Freshman of the Year JuJu Watkins. Together, these four players have made a significant impact on the team.

Even while the squad has grown significantly, especially with the inclusion of so many new players, it would have been difficult to predict just how good they would end up being. Watkins broke school records, including scoring thirty points in 13 games as a freshman, despite entering the league as the top recruit.

There’s little doubt that the Trojans have a strong chance of winning the NCAA Tournament. The Trojans are ranked as the first seed and their biggest opponents are South Carolina, Texas, and Iowa, whom they won’t have to play until the Final Four or later. For the time being, USC will get ready for Texas A&M Corpus Christi, their first opponent this week.
