UConn women’s basketball team out to avenge last year’s Sweet 16 loss: ‘Our biggest motivator’
Portland, Oregon — In the history of UConn women’s basketball, it was one of the most significant defeats. a total on-court collapse that ended the team’s record of 14 consecutive Final Four trips and marked the earliest NCAA Tournament elimination in 18 years.
The Huskies were outplayed and upset by Ohio State in nearly every aspect of last year’s Sweet 16.
And now, on the eve of this year’s Sweet 16, UConn senior point guard Nika Mühl will spend her evening rewatching that game from tipoff to the final buzzer.
“I must complete it. Mühl remarked, “I think I just need to keep that feeling in mind so I make sure I don’t feel it again. “.. I’ve examined it. It’s taught me something. Even though I’ve done a lot, I think I still need a reminder.
The Huskies are back in the Sweet 16 and back on the West Coast in an attempt to extend their season and exact revenge for their defeat in Seattle last year. At the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday at 8 p.m., No. 3 seed UConn takes on No. 7 Duke. In the Elite Eight on Monday, the victor takes on the winner of No. 1 USC-No. 5 Baylor for a chance to go to the Final Four.
“Me and Aaliyah (Edwards) being in that position again, we don’t want it to end the same way,” Mühl said. “That’s our biggest motivator and that’s the biggest reason for us to do things completely different 10 times better, more focused, more locked in.”
The postgame locker room scene in Seattle was devastating.
