The right-hander for the Toronto Blue Jays rejoins the team as his son’s condition becomes better.
Pitcher Erik Swanson of the Toronto Blue Jays has rejoined the team following a terrible event in which his four-year-old kid was struck by a vehicle. His son’s condition is becoming better, based on his capacity to return.
On Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays received excellent news: right-hand pitcher Erik Swanson is back with the organization.
The powerful reliever had taken time off from the club to care for his four-year-old kid, who was recently struck by a vehicle in Florida. He was discharged from the pediatric ICU and was recovering, as we had reported earlier in the week.
According to Jays columnist Mike Wilner:
The #Bluejays have wonderful news: Erik Swanson is back with the squad. This indicates that Toby, 4, is still doing well following his Sunday collision with an SUV on Clearwater Beach.
Of course, the most important thing in all of this is Toby’s wellbeing, but from a baseball standpoint alone, it’s fantastic to have Swanson back with the club.
The 30-year-old just finished a season in which he played in 69 games and went 4-2 with a 2.97 ERA. He also played a key role in the Jays qualifying for the postseason for the second consecutive season. 75 hitters were struck out by him in 66.2 innings.
Swanson has pitched for the Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners for five seasons, totaling a 3.78 ERA. Prior to the 2023 season, he was part of the transaction that transferred Teoscar Hernandez from Seattle to Toronto.
After making 57 and 69 appearances in the past two years, he has developed into a bullpen arm of great value.
Although the Orioles, Rays, and Yankees are among the most skilled teams in their division, Toronto should still be taken into consideration for the American League playoffs.
