Stay, Go, Hello: Roster outlook for Virginia Cavaliers basketball in 2024-25
Following their embarrassing loss to Colorado State on Tuesday night, Virginia has not won in the NCAA Tournament since taking home the championship in 2019. Who is expected to be out of the team for the upcoming season, who needs to make decisions, and who is on the way out?
On Tuesday night, any optimism that Virginia and Tony Bennett would overcome their offensive problems from the latter part of the season was swiftly dashed. In a Dayton First Four matchup against Colorado State, the Cavaliers looked uninspired when they took the court, struggled to generate stops or make shots, and ultimately lost 67-42.
With the NCAA stay much shorter than hoped for, Bennett and his staff are now going to begin a roster overhaul and while the National Championship he brought back to Charlottesville in 2019 will forever make him a legend, the Hoos haven’t won a game in the NCAA Tournament since cutting down the nets in Minneapolis. Changes will need to happen if they want to avoid their drought extending to six years.
